Monstera Deliciosa Care 101

Famous for its large, lush green foliage, Monstera Deliciosas are hardy and easy to care for, making it easy to see why it's the most popular houseplant.

The “deliciosa” part of the plant’s name comes from the pineapple-like fruit it bears in its natural habitat.

Light

Thrives in bright indirect to medium light.

Water

Water every 1–2 weeks, allowing soil to dry out between waterings. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.

Monsteras can benefit from filtered water or leaving water out overnight before using.

Sad Plant Signs

Leaves turning brown and crispy at the edges: Thirsty plant, under-watered, or high salt build up

Wilting plant, dry potting mix: Under-watered, or pot-bound

Yellowing leaves or black stems, wet potting mix: Overwatered

Hot tip

While it is tolerant of lower light conditions, you may notice leggy growth as a result. Monsteras appreciate a warm, humid environment and will grow faster as a result.
