Banana - Musa William Cavendish

The banana variety behind virtually every bunch sold in Australian supermarkets - and one that grows remarkably well in Perth's warmer northern suburbs when sheltered from cold southerly winds. William Cavendish produces full-sized, sweet fruit on a vigorous plant that will reach 3-4m. Full sun, sheltered from cold and strong wind. Rich, moisture-retentive soil. Water generously through summer. Feed monthly through the growing season with a high-potassium fertiliser. Cut the main stem back to the ground after it fruits; the next ratoon will take its place.
