Organic Charlie Charcoal

Biochar, a charcoal made by pyrolysis. Highly porous, so it holds water and nutrients and gives soil microbes somewhere to live. Once it is in the soil it stays there for centuries, which makes it a one-off amendment rather than something you reapply.
