Alocasia Macrorrhiza

Alocasia macrorrhiza is the plant the name Elephant Ear actually fits: huge, upright, glossy leaves on thick stems, reaching several metres in a warm, sheltered position. In Perth it belongs outdoors in a shaded courtyard or against a north-facing wall rather than in a pot indoors. Part shade to filtered light. Rich, moist, well-drained soil. Water generously through summer. Shelter from wind, which tears the leaves. All parts are toxic to pets and humans if ingested.
