One of Perth's most loved deciduous trees, producing spectacular flowers in summer - white, pink, red, purple, or mauve - followed by attractive autumn colour before the leaves drop to reveal beautiful smooth, mottled bark through winter. Perth's hot summers are ideal for Crepe Myrtle - they need heat to flower well. Full sun. Well-drained soil. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring. Do not top or pollard - this destroys the natural beautiful form. Prune lightly in late winter only to remove crossing branches or reshape gently.
