Ponytail Palm - Beaucarnea Recurvata

Ponytail Palm at tree scale is a mature, established specimen with a clearly developed swollen trunk base and long arching leaves cascading in a full ponytail from the crown. Not a true palm but a succulent tree from Mexico, it stores water in that distinctive expanded trunk base - which is why it tolerates drought and neglect that would kill most plants. At this size it makes an immediate architectural statement. Very long-lived and very slow-growing - a specimen tree that will outlast most other plants in the garden. Full sun. Excellent drainage. Very minimal water. Low maintenance.
